Mingala, some aspects of being auspicious

In our daily expressions, if someone says some good and fruitful or wholesome words, the other you are conversing with, will reveal out something like 'Mingala Shi Lite ta'. That means your words are wonderfully beneficial, glorious and auspicious. It is a pleasure and considered to be a privilege to have met and conversed with you. That is because he or she gets something beneficial for his or her whole life or very useful idea that help one solve the problems one is facing. The usage of the word 'Mingala' in all its multifarious forms happens to help us find the most appropriate word to express our satisfaction towards happiness in life.

'Sabba Mangala (Mingala) Gahta' is one of the auspicious and glorious Pali Gahta. In oder to overcome sorrow, distress, lamentation, conflict and confusion, mankind has devised various kinds of remedies or solution or help. Among successful ways and means to overcome them, the best way is the insightful knowledge of recitation of the famous gahta starting with the Pali Stanza 'Diva tapati'. It is the Pali Gahta that wipes off evils so that it is known as 'Sabba' - each and every being, 'Mangala' - suspicious and glorious, Gahta - Pali Stanza. This regular practice of reciting the Sabba Mangala Gahta is considered to be very essential in daily life, to face coming situation and events without any trouble or failure.

In this respect, 'Mingalaba', the word use in Myanmar way of greeting is caused to mean not only to be glorious and auspicious for the moment of meeting or the day when the meeting takes place but also to be successful in doing away with all evils for the rest of one's life.

Another prominent discourse delivered by the lord Buddha in his times is 'Mingala Sutta' or the discourse in a form of Pali Gahta to be recited regularly and on special occasions like Swan Kywe (Alms-food offering ceremony), Mingala Swan Kywe ( the ceremony of offering of food to Buddhist monks to bless the marriage) etc.

It is said that daily recitation and practice of Mangala Sutta (discourse stanza) will bring auspiciousness to any place and to any time. Moreover, dangers, troubles and calamities will be prevented. Enemies will not be able to win victory over us and wealth and happiness will increase. No one can harm us secretly or openly. Progress is assured. One will attain Mangala ( auspiciousness) and later even phala insight. Phala means the resultant of magga - fruition, fruitional consciousness.
